On Friday, February 23 I'm presenting my research on ownership of the Stanley Cup at a workshop organized by the Research Centre for Sport in Canadian Society. I will present a paper titled, "The Stanley Cup Case Study: Changes in the Practice and Pedagogy of Property Law". The 2004-2005 NHL lockout triggered discussions about a range of ancient and contemporary property law issues. My work analyzes these issues in detail, but also shows how the case study can be used as a tool to teach students about the linkages between seemingly diverse topics, like trade-marks and the rule against perpetuities for example. It illustrates the sort of broad-based problem solving skills required in a modern and multi-faceted property law practice, and offers insights into the design and delivery of an introductory property course. Professor David Paciocco from the Faculty of Law will be the discussant. All are welcome to participate, if they have registered and read the paper, which can be obtained from Christine Dallaire <
