The recent conference, " The Right to Food at the Nexus of Trade and Technology" was a huge success. This interdisciplinary event brought together leading thinkers from the fields of law, economics, sociology, anthropology, development studies and other social sciences, as well as experts in natural sciences such as nutrition and biochemistry. Over 180 people registered to engage in dialogue with the 30+ speakers, nearly half of whom came from outside of the legal community. An edited compilation of some of the papers presented at the conference is in the works, and will hopefully be available in early 2006.
Professor deBeer also presented a paper at this conference. He demonstrated how his recent work addressing "The Rights and Responsibilities of GMO Patent Owners" was relevant to the potential of agricultural biotechnology to combat world hunger. You can learn more on Professor deBeer's research page.
